MY NAME IS SAM AND THEY CALL ME CHIEF PAINTLOUNGER.

I believe that art is as much about the process as the end result. You don’t have to be an “artist” to make art – it’s all about unleashing the creativity that hides behind your day-to-day job. By simply playing around with colours and basic shapes, you can express a whole range of emotions – no drawing skills are needed!

THE ARTIST – TURNED ENGINEER – TURNED BANKER – TURNED ARTIST.
You often hear about people referring to themselves as left-brained or right-brained. However, recent studies have shown that abilities in math are strongest when both sides work together! I first started with art and that helped me build up my creativity. I love approaching work from a creative angle and doing things the unconventional way! For example, my final high school physics project was a comic book that demonstrated the “Physics of Swimming” and got me the graduating physics award. Art never left me during my education then career in Engineering and later in Investment Banking. I often continued to play with paint. What often started with a painting evolved into unconventional creative ways solutions to work-related problems. After painting and working abroad in Asia for a few years, I wanted to share this creative experience with those who never thought of going back to art!

HELLO, SOCIAL PAINTING!

My hope is that I can show people that social painting is fun, relaxing and is actually beneficial (just like exercising!) for our everyday lives. I left my career as a banker to pursue my passion and opened up the first Paintlounge in Markham in October 2010. I wanted to create a non-intimidating atmosphere for those who haven’t touched art since grade school to try it again … so I added something else more familiar and incorporated the cafe bar to the social painting space. Many litres of paint and lots of customer feedback later, I opened up my second location in the west end of Toronto in August 2013. To make sure we have our east-end friends covered, our now growing team opened up our third location in April 2014 in Leslieville and relocated our first Markham location in May 2014 to Main St Markham to accommodate more art lovers. Where do we go from here? Come into one of our locations and meet our team – we’d love to chat more!
